Cool Apps that are must have in your iPhone

Post  Admin on Wed Oct 15, 2008 3:03 pm

Well i know it is now the right time to start off a new thread which will exclusively gives anyone who owns an iphone to see what applications are hot and what are free and what are must to have.

So here is the list and a short description:

1. Where - This is an awesome application and it is FREE. It combines all the necessary items that you might go to the internet for in one place i.e. integrated with Yelp for restaurant reviews in your area, integrated with gasbuddy to find the cheapest gas station in your area, local business search and lots more. It uses the gps function in your iphone to locate where you are and provide results based on that.

2. Fring - A FREE im/chat application which integrates all the chats applications into one. i.e. you can have your google talk, yahoo msngr, skype etc into one application. This is an awesome application.

3. YouNote - This is an awesome application but you have pay a small price for this one. It is similar to Notes in outlook but you can have free form notes, video and audio notes.

4. Airsharing - The first thing that i got stumped when i got an iPhone was that i am not able to transfer file from my computer to iphone like how i used to do with my previous WM6.0 phone. So this application makes your iphone as a wireless drive so that you can transfer any files you want included mp3. Ofcourse such a cool app will not come Free.. you have pay for it. But worth the moni spent on this.

5. Grocery IQ - A very handy application if you are messy with grocery shopping list, forgetting the most important thing while you were in the store etc. This application has over 130K list of grocery items from which you can search and add it to your list. You can also arrange your list by the aisle information from your local grocery store so that when you add the list, it will automatically rearrange by your store aisle design and make your life lot easier.

More to follow - keep adding if you find any.

Midomi - Music search app - another killer app

Post  Admin on Sat Oct 18, 2008 10:25 am

I came across this killer app which is quite impressing. It is called Midomi and click here for their official website. It is a search engine but what is unique about this one is it searches on Music information based your input. And guess what, they go one level up by doing speech recognition i.e. say you remember a song and you dont know the album details and just know the lyrics.. and if you have a microphone, sing few lines to Midomi and it returns the album details. The speech recognition was pretty good.

As you know i would have tried all possible combination.. .and yes i did. I searched for a Tamil very old movie song and bingo.. the first hit in their search result was that song. I was quite impressed. Even though i may not use this quite often, this app is going to be an permanent one.

Check it out and it is FREE.

Couple of additional must have app.

Post  Baracuda on Thu Oct 23, 2008 5:14 am

Hello, I came across couple of cool apps that are must have ones.

1. Save Benjis - A real time price comparison tool. If you are in a store and looking at an item and wondered what is the price in other stores and wished you could do a real time compare of the prices and see if you can get a better deal? Then you must have Save Benjis app - enter the item you want to search and this app gathers data and prices from all the stores that is selling that product. A really cool app for free.

2. Shozu - A send and share application. links to flickr, facebook and other social networks and you can use this app to upload photo straight to any one of those social network sites if you have an account with them. I tried and it is really awesome. This is also FREE

3. Lockbox - a highly encrypted password protected vault where you can save some very important notes such has cc numbers, account #s and passwords. A simple yet powerful app if you have some private information that you dont want anyone to see. This is also FREE

Discover and Fake A Call

Post  Baracuda on Fri Nov 14, 2008 2:57 pm

Came across couple of apps that would go into the "must have" category.
1. Discover - This is similar to Airsharing app i.e. you can connect to your iphone to the computer and transfer files. The only difference between these two app is, with AirSharing you can drag and drop files into your iphone and it is a paid version. Discover doesnt provide that drag and drop feature but FREE.
2. Trapster - A very interesting app from www.trapster.com. The main function of this website is to provide information on Police speed traps, speed cameras and red light cameras and alert users real time. Sounds interesting right.. well they have now provided an iphone version of the functionality. I havent tried it fully but looks very promising.
3. Fake-A-Call - Ever stuck in a bored meeting or in an embarrassing situation? well Fake-A-Call is a FREE application which you can use to fake a call and get out of that not so great situation. You can set it to ring by just double tapping it or you can set the timer. There are other similar free apps - Fake Caller is another one but this seems to be better than the rest of free apps. Ofcourse you get lot of paid apps too. but try it out.. Also those who are having a ipod touch can fake a call and tell their friends that they hacked the ipod touch to work as a phone!!!!

Phoneflix - Online movie rental manager

Post  Admin on Wed Nov 19, 2008 6:01 am

This will be a very useful app for folks who have a netflix account. Phoneflix is a useful FREE application that manages your Netflix Queue. You can add, view, recommend movies right from your iphone. This application is not affiliated to Netflix but their interface and usability is awesome.

If folks have blockbuster, not to worry, you have a similar application called Dashmanager. but the free version doesnt let you add movies. You can just view your queue. Also due to some recent changes they have pulled out the paid version. So more to come for Blockbuster account holders.

The list continues - Google app, Dots Free and iCricket

Post  Admin on Wed Nov 19, 2008 2:42 pm

Well the list continues. More and more folks join the band wagon of creating new apps and publishing them. Soon i think we will come to a situation where the homescreen gets filled and wont have space to add new ones.

Google App - Well this one is quite old but they have come up with a smashing update which is voice search and you dont need to touch anything to launch the voice menu. Just launch the app, bring it close to your ear and speak after the beep and see the results coming. Pretty impressive and so far from the test i did .. it came up with 90% accuracy. A good app to have.

Dots Free - A very addictive game. This is the old fun game that everyone must have played .. i.e. connecting the dots alternatively and then forming a box. whoever makes the number of boxes wins the game. This is FREE and lets you play with iphone or two players or if you are too bored, just let the iphone play an dyou can just watch.

iCricket - All Cricket lovers will love to have this app in their iPhone. This app pulls real time info from cricinfo.com and provide all the relevant statistics and the review from cricket fans is they just love it.

More to follow.....
